Hotel of the Month: Miramare The Palace – Sanremo’s Grand Spring Return

Miramare The Palace reopens on 13 April, welcoming you back to Sanremo, one of the Italian Riviera’s most elegant seaside resorts. This five-star luxury retreat combines historic grandeur with polished Mediterranean ease, bordered by sea views and subtropical gardens.

Location is definitely a large part of the appeal. The hotel sits on the seafront, close to the city centre and the Casino, yet still feels tucked away enough to give your stay a sense of escape. There is an elegance to the whole property, but it never feels overly formal, which is exactly what makes it such an attractive base for a long weekend or a slower break.

Days here can be as laid-back or as active as you want them to be. You might start with a leisurely breakfast overlooking the grounds, then head into Sanremo for a change of scene before returning in time for sunset drinks by the water.

If you prefer to keep moving, the experiences begin right outside the hotel. Scenic coastal walks, or runs for the more sporty, start from the panoramic seaside trail directly in front, with uninterrupted Mediterranean vistas the whole way. Complimentary e-bikes are also available on request, making it wonderfully easy to explore a little further without trying too hard.

Back at the hotel, a heated natural freshwater pool seems to melt into the terrace, the sea and the blue sky beyond. Framed by a tropical garden, it is the sort of spot where an hour in the sun has a habit of turning into an afternoon, particularly when there is a lounger waiting and nowhere more pressing to be.

Then, as the light softens, the American Sunset Bar comes into its own, with cocktails, sea views and that golden end-of-day light across the water. From there, dinner at Aqualua adds another layer to the experience. Led by Executive Chef Roberto Scarnecchia, the restaurant draws on the flavours of the Italian Riviera, with gourmet dishes built around the finest local ingredients.

Altogether, it is the kind of hotel that suits Sanremo beautifully: refined, relaxed and well placed for a spring stay that moves easily between the coast and the town.
