Six Senses London: A New Calm for the Capital

Six Senses London opens this April within the reimagined Whiteley department store in Bayswater bringing a new sense of refinement to West London. Taking up the full length of this historic Art Deco building, it nevertheless feels surprisingly intimate.

Inside the mood is calm and contemporary. Deco curves soften into clean lines, natural textures add depth and light fills the spaces in a way that feels intentional rather than theatrical. Modern British art adds personality without overpowering the tranquillity; there is nothing loud here, everything is considered.

On the ground floor, Whiteley’s Kitchen, Bar and Café will channel the rebellious spirit of William Whiteley himself, serving food with feeling – made from local produce and inspired by ideas from everywhere. From firelit breakfasts that ignite the day to late-night drinks that keep the night alive, menus will follow the seasons, bringing whatever is at its best to the table.

Upstairs the 109 rooms and suites, along with 14 residences, continue the theme of understated luxury. Soft tones, leafy touches and generous layouts create sanctuaries that feel restorative from the moment the door closes behind you.

The spa shifts your experience again. Inspired by the architecture of old Underground stations, a 20-metre indoor pool anchors the space, with cream corridors leading through to the progressive Biohack Recovery Lounge. Cryotherapy, floatation and heat and water journeys flow alongside saunas, steam rooms, plunge pools and sensory showers. Cross a bridge flanked by two towering natural tree sculptures and you will reach the Alchemy Bar, where you can blend seasonal herbs into personalised remedies to take home.

Finally, Six Senses Place adds a further dimension to the property. Offering a new kind of social club, this is where wellness, community and celebration meet with sustainability central to its design and operations.
